Expressions with ‘Home’

Let’s look at three today.

1. Nothing to write home about

Meaning: Something or someone is not as good as you expected.

Example: The internet is nothing to write home about because it contains more useless information than useful information.
2. Until the cows come home / Till the cows come home
Meaning: For a very long time
Example: After not seeing each other for more than two years, my best friend and I talked till / until the cows came home.
3. To hit home
Meaning: Something someone says or an action or a situation has a strong effect on you because it forces you to understand something important or unpleasant.
Example: The doctor’s warning about my health really hit home, and I promised to change my lifestyle.
